A
balloon arch is a freestanding frame that you walk through or stand under: it marks an entrance, frames a ceremony or creates a photo spot. A
balloon garland has no fixed shape: it runs along a table, a staircase, a doorway or a wall and follows the room. Choose an arch when you need one strong focal point, and a garland when you want to decorate a long surface or work around the architecture of the space. Many events use both.
What Is a Balloon Arch?An arch is built on a frame, so it stands on its own and keeps its shape. It is the classic choice for an entrance, a
wedding ceremony, a stage or the main photo area. Arches come in two styles. A standard arch has an even, symmetrical shape. An organic arch uses balloons of different sizes for a softer, more natural look, often with flowers or foil accents worked in.
What Is a Balloon Garland?A garland is a flexible line of balloons, usually organic, that can be any length. It is attached to what is already in the room: along the edge of a dessert or head table, up a staircase railing, around a doorway or a fireplace, across a wall behind a stage. Because it follows the space, a garland works well in rooms where a freestanding piece would block the way.
When to Choose an ArchYou want a clear focal point: the entrance, the ceremony or the main photo spot.
You need a freestanding piece that does not attach to walls or furniture.
The event has a ceremony moment, such as a wedding, a ribbon cutting or a graduation entrance.
You want guests to walk through or stand under the decor.
When to Choose a GarlandYou want to decorate a long surface: a head table, a dessert table, a staircase or a stage edge.
The room is tight, and a freestanding arch would take too much floor space.
You want the decor to follow the architecture of the room rather than stand in front of it.
You want a softer, more casual look for a
shower, a
birthday or a party at home.
How Much Do They Cost in Boston? At WOW! Balloons, a standard 10 by 10 foot balloon arch starts from $500, and an organic arch of the same size starts from about $800. Garlands have no standard size, so they are priced by length, density and how they have to be installed. Our
minimum order is from $500 and up in the Boston area and from $1,000 and up in New York City, plus a $100 setup and delivery fee.
Do They Last the Same?Yes. Indoors, in an air conditioned room, both an arch and a garland hold their shape for about a week. Outdoors, plan for one day and keep balloons out of direct sunlight, because heat makes them pop.
Can You Combine Them?Yes, and it often works best. A common combination is an arch at the entrance or the ceremony and a garland along the head table or the dessert table in the same colors, so the room reads as one design.
